Elia Pilates

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first reformer pilates class at Elia studio in Novi Beograd.

What is reformer pilates?

Reformer pilates is a form of pilates practiced on a specialized machine called a reformer, fitted with springs, straps and a sliding carriage that provides controlled resistance throughout each exercise. Spring resistance builds strength, stability and control while placing less strain on the joints than traditional weight training. At Elia studio in Novi Beograd, classes are led by an instructor who adjusts each movement to the people in the room.

How is reformer pilates different from mat pilates?

The main difference between reformer and mat pilates is the equipment: mat pilates is done on the floor using body weight alone, while reformer pilates uses a spring loaded machine that adds or removes resistance depending on the exercise. This makes it easier to fine tune intensity and adapt movements to different fitness levels. Both approaches train the core, flexibility and breathing, but reformer pilates adds spring resistance and a sliding carriage.

Is reformer pilates suitable for complete beginners?

Reformer pilates works well for complete beginners, since spring resistance and exercise choice are adjusted to each person individually. No prior experience with pilates or with the reformer machine is required, the instructor guides you through the basic movements and breathing technique from your first class. At Elia studio in Belgrade, the pace of the session is set to match the group.

Do I need a certain fitness level to start?

You do not need any prior fitness level to start reformer pilates. Exercises are adapted to your individual strength and flexibility, and spring resistance can be increased or decreased as your body is ready for more load. Strength and conditioning build gradually, session by session.

What should I wear to class?

For a reformer pilates class, comfortable, fitted athletic wear that moves with the body works best, such as leggings and a top without loose fabric that could catch on the equipment. Sports shoes are not needed, pilates is practiced barefoot or in grip socks. A water bottle is all you need to bring beyond that.

Do I need grip socks?

Grip socks are not required for training at Elia studio. Training barefoot is a perfectly common option, and anyone who wants grip socks can buy them on site at the studio, no need to bring your own.

How long is one class?

One reformer pilates session at Elia studio lasts 60 minutes. That is enough time for a warm up, the main part of the class and a short stretch at the end, without rushing.

How big is the group?

Elia studio has 6 reformer machines, so a group class is limited to a maximum of 6 people. A smaller group means the instructor can watch every person's technique throughout the class.

How many times a week should I train?

For visible results in strength, posture and flexibility, training reformer pilates two to three times a week is recommended. Training once a week still benefits the body, progress is simply slower. The right frequency depends on your goals and schedule, which is why Elia's 8 and 12 session packages are built for regular training over a month.

What are the prices and packages?

A single group reformer pilates class at Elia studio costs 2,500 RSD, an 8 class package costs 18,000 RSD and a 12 class package costs 25,000 RSD. A private one on one session costs 4,800 RSD, while 8 and 12 session private packages cost 36,000 and 50,000 RSD. All packages are valid for 30 days from the date of payment.

Can I transfer or get a refund on my package?

Membership packages at Elia studio cannot be transferred to another person or refunded. Since a package is valid for 30 days from payment, it is best to schedule your sessions in advance so you can use them all within that window. For questions about a specific package, contact the studio through WhatsApp before purchasing.

Does reformer pilates help with back pain and posture?

Reformer pilates can help strengthen the core and back muscles, which supports better posture and spinal stability in everyday movement. It is not a medical treatment or a substitute for treating back pain, but a form of controlled physical activity that builds strength and body awareness. If you have existing back pain or a diagnosed condition, talk to your doctor or physiotherapist beforehand, and let your instructor know about any issues before your first class.

Can I do pilates during pregnancy?

Pregnant clients can train at Elia studio, but only in private one on one sessions, so the instructor can fully focus on adapting the exercises. The decision to train, and at what intensity, should still always be made together with your gynecologist, especially in the first trimester or with a high risk pregnancy. With your doctor's clearance, let your instructor know about your pregnancy and week of gestation in advance so the session can be adjusted.
